PuppEX 2012 is a remaster of Puppy Linux Slacko 220.127.116.11, released on July 5, 2012. Kernel 3.2.22 is used when running the system live, but if you install PuppEX to hard disk, you can use “my” own compiled kernel 3.5.2-exton instead. PuppEX 2012 uses, like the original Puppy Slacko, JVM, Fvwm95 and IceWM as desktop interface. In PuppEX there are, however, elements of LXDE, such as the file manager PCManFM and LXTerminal. These programs are more useful than ROX-Filer respectively RXVT, I think. The ISO file is on the whole 365 MB, which is due to me including all the necessary additions in order to install programs from source, the extra kernel 3.5.2, Vlc, Gimp and NVIDIA’s own graphics driver 304.37. Slacko 18.104.22.168 is only of 138 MB. PuppEX is despite this still running as fast as the original Puppy, which means it runs very, very fast compared to most other Linux systems.
Kernel 3.5.2 is the second latest available stable kernel (as of 120826). The latest is 3.5.3.
