I’ve made a new version of exGENT, which is based on Gentoo version 120710 (latest). The old version of exGENT is from 111019. My new exGENT Linux live system uses Fluxbox 1.3.2 as Desktop Environment and “my special” kernel 3.0.4-exton. Kernel 3.3.8-gentoo will be used after a hard disk installation. Fluxbox is used because of its speed. The system language is English. Quite new is that I’ve found a suitable installation program, in which a Grub installation (Grub Legacy) is included.
The best thing with exGENT version 120814 is the premier autodetection of hardware and the ability to easily install the system to hard drive and/or USB stick. Installed programs: Among many others Firefox and Wicd. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source the Gentoo way. Kernel sources for kernel 3.3.8-gentoo is also included.
exGENT Linux can be installed to hard drive in 5 – 10 min. This means that all of you who might hesitate to perform a normal Gentoo installation – which can take up to a couple of days – now have the chance to get this great Linux system on your computers very easy.
Gentoo/exGENT is a rolling distribution, which implies that once you have installed the system on the hard drive there is no need for re-installations (which otherwise is common in the Linux world).
GO FOR IT!
You can run exGENT super fast in RAM. Start Option 2 (Copy2RAM). The launch from the dvd becomes a little slow, but then… A wonderful way to run Linux. After booting the dvd pops out automatically.
