A new 64 bit version of exGENT (Gentoo) live is ready!

GentooI’ve made a third version of exGENT 2013. Now with LXDE and kernel 3.9.2-gentoo-exton. Version 130521 is for the 64 bit architecture. I’ve kept my two previous versions 20130423 and 20130415 on Sourceforge.net. The old versions are for the 32 bit architecture.

exGENT 64 bit version 130521 is in very good shape. Yesterday I could run the following commands without problems:

#
emerge –ask –update –newuse –deep –with-bdeps=y @world
# emerge –depclean
# revdep-rebuild

A new version of Exton-Slack 14.0 is ready!

BildExton-Slack current is a new remaster of Slackware 14.0/current 64bit. KDE 4.10.3 (released 130507) is used as Desktop Environment. I have compiled the kernel 3.8.7 in the same way that Slackware’s kernel huge is compiled. This means that there are a lot of native support for modern hardware in “my” kernel 3.8.7-exton. Even more than what is available in Slackware’s original kernel huge. This is my third Slackware system for 64bit computers. Furthermore I have installed Grub2, which can be used as boot loader after a hard drive install.

I have compiled yet another 32bit Ubuntu kernel. This time kernel 3.9.0-0-exton equivalent to Kernel.org’s latest kernel 3.9, released 130429.

About
This kernel can be installed in all Ubuntu 32bit systems version 10.04 – 13.04 and Ubuntu derivatives such as Linux Mint 10 – 14 and ExLight. My self-compiled Ubuntu kernels can even be used in Debian Wheezy (Debian 7) and Debian Squeeze (Debian 6).

Feature OVERVIEW for the Linux 3.9 kernel

DOWNLOAD ubuntu-kernel-32bit-3.9.0-0-exton.zip

md5sum for the ZIP file, which is of 55,1 MB

Installation instructions
Open the zip-file with WinZip, WinRAR or 7-Zip. Go into the folder ubuntu-kernel-32bit-3.9.0-0-exton and run this command:

sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.9.0-0_3.9.0-0.4_all.deb \
linux-headers-3.9.0-0-exton_3.9.0-0.4_i386.deb \
linux-image-3.9.0-0-exton_3.9.0-0.4_i386.deb

Then: Run command sudo update-grub (if you use Grub 2)

A small clarification
“My” kernel 3.9.0-0-exton is compiled exactly the same way as all official Ubuntu kernels. That is, The Ubuntu Way. If not, the kernel would not function in an Debian/Ubuntu system.

Good luck!
