A new and better version (4) of Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 – Exton build – with Google Play Store and Aptoide App Manager

android-kitkat-exton-20150330-screenshot6-smallAndroid-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 Exton build version 4 can run live (from CD) on almost all laptops (and some Desktop computers). For example Acer (Aspire), HP, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Thinkpad, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Ausus laptops. The Android system is distributed in the form of an ISO file as the rest of my Linux distributions. I.e. you must (as usual) burn the ISO file to a CD if you want to run the system live on your computer or install it to hard drive. Read about how to burn ISO files. Or skip that. Just use ImgBurn. Nothing can go wrong. You can also very easy install the system to your hard drive and install new apps. You can also install new apps while running the system live. Google Play Store and Aptoide App Manager are pre-installed so you can just make your choice…

Replacement
This version (version 4) replaces version 1 and version 2 of my Android-x86 KitKat builds. In version 4 I’ve added the following apps: Google Play Store (quite difficult to install) Aptoide App Manager, YouTube, Nature Live Wallpapers, Rotation Control Lite, Facebook, WPS Office, QuickOffice, QuickPic and PicsArt Photo Studio.

What’s the point?
Well, if you like your Android phone and all the apps you have installed on it I’m sure you will also like to run apps from your laptop. Bigger screen and better sound etc.

DebEX Barebone 64 bit Live DVD with Xfce 4.12, released 150228 after three years of work

DebianNEWS about DebEX Barebone 150329
A new version of DebEX Barebone with Xfce 4.12 and kernel 3.18.0-8-exton (equivalent to Kernel.org’s stable kernel 3.18.1) is ready. I have installed Nvidia’s proprietary graphic driver 340.65. All packages have been updated to the latest version as of Mars 29, 2015.

Announcement about Xfce 4.12, released 150228
Today, after 2 years and 10 months of work, we are pleased to announce the release of the Xfce desktop 4.12, a new stable version that supersedes Xfce 4.10. This long period can only be explained by how awesome Xfce 4.10 was. But as all things, it needed some refreshing – and for that we saw lots of new contributors providing valuable feedback, features and bugfixes. As always, Xfce follows its steady pace of evolution without revolution that seems to match our users’ needs.

Unique?
As far as I know there is not other Linux live cd/dvd with Xfce 4.12.

Three versions of DebEX: DebEX Barebone, DebEX Gnome and DebEX KDE Linux 64 bit
All three systems/distributions are based on Debian Jessie (upcoming Debian 8). There are also certain elements of Debian Sid (unstable). Xfce 4.12 (released 150228 after about three years work!) is used as Desktop environment in DebEX Barebone. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly. Gnome 3.14 is used in DebEX Gnome. KDE 4.14.3 and KDE Plasma Desktop 5:84 is used in DebEX KDE. DebEX Barebone uses “my” special kernel 3.18.0-8-exton (equivalent to Kernel.org’s stable kernel 3.18.1). So does DebEX Gnome version 150122. DebEX KDE uses “my” special kernel 3.19.0-5-exton equivalent to Kernel.org’s stable kernel 3.19.0. The system language is English (in all three versions of DebEX).

RaspEX for Raspberry reviewed by Softpedia 150323

raspberry-logoRaspEX for Raspberry Pi 2 was reviewed by Softpedia today (150323).

My News 150318

I have made a perfect (as I think) Linux ARM system for Raspberry Pi 2. I call it RaspEX. It is based on Debian Jessie (upcoming Debian 8), Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (upcoming Ubuntu 15.04) and Linaro (Open Source software for ARM SoCs).

What is Raspberry Pi?
The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python. It’s capable of doing everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the internet and playing high-definition video, to making spreadsheets, word-processing, and playing games.

Softpedia’s review (excerpt)
RaspEX is a commercial operating system for the Raspberry Pi 2 computer board. It is a Linux distribution based on the well known Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) and Debian GNU/Linux 8 (Jessie) operating systems, built around the lightweight LXDE desktop environment and open-source software packages for ARM SoCs from Linaro.

A complete desktop system for the Raspberry Pi 2
RaspEX it’s not a simple distribution with only some basic packages thrown on top of a window manager/desktop environment just for fun, just to prove that Linux works well on Raspberry Pi 2.The fact of the matter is that it’s a complete Linux kernel-based desktop system built around LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment), an energy-saving and extremely fast-performing desktop environment with numerous powerful open-source programs pre-installed.

My Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 builds now reviewed by Softpedia

softpediaMy Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 builds 150301 and 150307 were reviewed by Softpedia 150319.

These special builds of the Android-x86 Linux operating system are currently distributed as Live CD ISO images that contain software packages optimized only for 32-bit (x86) hardware architectures

Comes with Google Play Store, Aptoide App Manager and many cool applications
As mentioned, these are special builds of the original Android-x86 project that include the official Google Play Store application, allowing the user to install all sorts of Android applications on their computers. The second build of this special Android-x86 operating system runs even a newer kernel, version 3.18.8, and uses the Aptoide App Manager package manager instead of Google Play Store.

Among the pre-installed applications, we can mention Quickoffice, Google Now Launcher, Gmail, Netflix, Keep, Facebook, Drive, RSS Reader, Spotify, Play Newsstand, Play Movies & TV, Speech Recorder, Calibration, LIME-HD Settings, File Manager, Play Books, and Superuser. The Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 build 150307 includes even more pre-installed applications.

About RaspEX

RaspEX is a full Linux Desktop system with LXDE (an extremely fast-performing and energy-saving desktop environment) and many other useful programs pre-installed. Chromium is used as Web Browser and Synaptic as Package Manager. You can use Synaptic to install any extra packages you may need. For example LibreOffice. RaspEX uses Ubuntu and Linaro software repositories so you can install thousands of extra packages if you want.

Kernel
Kernel 3.18.7-v7+ is used

Why shall I use RaspEX?
Eight Operating Systems are recommended by Raspberry.org. Among them Noobs, Raspbian (Debian Wheezy) and Snappy Ubuntu Core. RaspEX is faster, more useful and more fun to use. (In my opinion).

PuppEX Tahr (Tahrpup 6.0) with kernel 3.19.1-PAE-puppex

CruxNEWS 150309
A new version of PuppEX Tahr 32bit is ready. Kernel 3.19.1 is the latest available stable kernel from Kernel.org as of 150309. PuppEX uses the original Puppy Tahr Desktop. I have added PCManFM and LXTerminal. They are more useful than ROX-Filer respectively RXVT, I think. The ISO file is on the whole 475 MB, which is due to me including also NVIDIA Graphics driver 346.47, Gimp, Google Chrome (for Netflix), Adobe Flash and compiling tools. Tahrpup original is of only 199 MB. PuppEX is despite this still running as fast as the original, which means it runs very, very fast compared to most other Linux systems. (Puppy/PuppEX runs from RAM). I’ve also added Tahrpup’s Service Pack 6.0.2. With PAE compiled into the kernel PuppEX now can address up to 64GB of RAM.

Compatible with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
The beauty of Puppy Tahr 6.0 is that programs that are available for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS also can be easily installed and run in Puppy Tahr (and thus also in PuppEX).

See a screenshot of the Desktop

AndEX (Android) x86 5.0.2 Lollipop Live CD with kernel 3.10.58-exton-android-x86

Android logoI have compiled an Android x86 system (Lollipop 5.0.2), which can run live (from CD) or be installed on almost all laptops (and some Desktop computers).

About AndEX
Lollipop 5.0.2 is the latest version of the Android mobile operating system developed by Google. I call my remaster of it AndEX Lollipop Live CD. It uses “my” special kernel 3.10.58-exton-android-x86 with some extra features. I.e. extra drivers and NTFS read/write support. My Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 build from 2015-03-21 will cost you 8 $ and my Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 build from 2015-03-30 7 $. They have three advantages over the Lollipop version: Aptoide App Manager respectively Google Play Store is pre-installed, a newer kernel (3.18.8 respectively 3.18.2) is used and you can run the systems in VirtualBoxRead more about the KitKat 4.4.4 version 150321 or DOWNLOAD it instantly. Read more about the KitKat 4.4.4 version 150330 or DOWNLOAD it instantly.

Installing new apps in AndEX Lollipop
Use Aptoid Apps Store, which is pre-installed. Just make your choices

Install the system to hard drive
Say for example that you have a laptop with Windows 8.1 installed as the only operating system. If you just create one extra partition of about 5 GB you can install Android Lollipop on this extra partition and then “dual-boot”. I.e. you can turn on your computer (called “booting it up”) and decide whether you want to start Windows or Android Lollipop. Grub will be installed as boot handler/loader during the installation of Android Lollipop. Note: The installation will take only about one minute. And the installation to hard drive is so simple that a 10 year old child can do it.

USB installation
Read my instruction. Must be done if your computer lacks a CD drive.

NOTE/WARNING
You must use a fairly new/modern computer. Android x86 Lollipop won’t run (even start) on older computers. My other Android remaster KitKat 4.4.4 runs also on older computers.
