Android-x86_64 Nougat 7.1.2 – Build 170619 – with GAPPS and kernel 4.9.31-exton-android-x86_64

News 170621 about AndEX 7.1.2
Yesterday I said that AndEX 7.1.2 couldn’t run in VirtualBox and VMware. Actually it can! It just takes about 10 min for the Desktop to show up when running AndEX live. (I mean directly from the ISO file). Watch this screenshotVirtualBox and this screenshot – VMware. Just give AndEX enough RAM. I gave AndEX 3GB. You can (of course) also install AndEX to a virtual hard drive in VirtualBox and VMware.

NEWS 170619 about AndEX Nougat 7.1.2
My new build of Android x86_64 – android_x86_64-7.1.2-nougat-gapps-kernel-4.9.31-exton-990mb-170619.iso can be installed to hard drive or on a USB stick. You can also run the system live. I.e. from a DVD or a USB stick. On some computers you’ll have to start up AndEX 7.1.2 in compatibility mode (VESA) though. GAPPS and all other apps mentioned below are installed. NOTE: You can run AndEX Nougat Build 170619 on newer laptops and Desktop computers. Sound won’t work on all though – see below. The video performance is generally very very good.

MORE NEWS 170619: AndEX – Nougat 7.1.2 with kernel 4.9.31-exton-android-x86_64 and GAPPS
My new build of Android-x86_64 Nougat 7.1.2 have GAPPS pre-installed. I.e. Google Play Services 11.0.55, Google Play Store 7.9.52-Q-all, Aptoide App Manager, Google Play Games 3.9.08 (needed for Clash of Clans to run), Gmail 7.6.4 and YouTube 12.14.56. Also many other apps. For example: Spotify 8.4.4.810, Clash of Clans 9.24.16, File Manager 2.0.0.355, HD Camera Ultra 2.3.1 (works very well), Google Maps 9.50.2, SnapTube 4.3.0, Firefox 54.0 (latest version) and Rotation Control Pro 1.1.9.

PREREQUISITE
The system can be installed manually to hard drive. To be able to do that you must have at least one Linux system installed on your hard drive. You must also use Grub as boot loader. You can also (or alternatively) install AndEX 7.1.2 while running the system from a DVD or from a USB stick. Use preferable Rufus to create a bootable USB stick. Or burn the ISO file (android_x86_64-7.1.2-nougat-gapps-kernel-4.9.31-exton-990mb-170619.iso) to a DVD and run the system from it.

ABOUT Andex Nougat 7.1.2
My compiled Android-x86_64 system (Nougat 7.1.2) can run live and from hard drive on certain computers. The system can run and be installed on almost all newer laptops (and some Desktop computers). For example Acer (Aspire), HP, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Thinkpad, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Asus laptops. I can also mention that I could run my new Nougat version without problems on a HP Pavilion 500-317no Desktop Computer. The Android-AndEX 7.1.2 system is distributed in the form of a Zip file and a ISO file. You can do a manual installation to hard drive. That can even be done to a drive where you already have another Linux system (for example Ubuntu 17.04) installed. That’s sort of a Frugal Installation (normally used by Puppy Linux). Read more about different installations of AndEX Nougat 7.1.2 at the INFO site.

Android Nougat 7.1.2 was released 170403.

What’s the point?
Well, if you like your Android phone and all the apps you have installed on it I’m sure you will also like to run apps from your laptop. Bigger screen and better sound etc. Also: In AndEX Nougat Build 170619 almost all apps and games can be installed via Google Play Store. You can even install very big games (of 1GB or so), but unfortunately almost all such games need a touchscreen. Clash of Clans (pre-installed) works very good though. So does Angry Birds. Still not convinced? Then read my article about “How useful an Androx-x86 system can be for the average computer user“.

exGENT (Gentoo) 64 bit Linux Live DVD with Xfce4, Grub2 and kernel 4.10.1-gentoo-exton – Build 170303

NEWS 20170303 about exGENT
I’ve made yet a new version (20170303) of exGENT based on Gentoo Linux. Now with Xfce 4.12.1 and kernel 4.10.1. It is for the 64 bit architecture. I call it exGENT 2017 Xfce4 Live DVD. It replaces version 20170209. The ISO file is of 2760 MB due to the fact that this version has a lot of packages pre-installed. Despite this exGENT version 170303 runs surprisingly fast from DVD or USB. Even in VirtualBox and VMware. Faster than most other Linux live systems. All installed packages in exGENT have been updated to the latest available version by 170303.

What’s new in exGENT Build 170303?
The boot loader Grub Legacy has been replaced by Grub2. I started this build in the hope that I should be able to implement a new independent installer program called Calamares. I wasn’t able to do it now though. (Many dependencies to satisfy). My old installer script will have to do until I find a solution. Anyway, I think exGENT Build 170303 can be of interest because of the change to Grub2 and the fact that it has the newest kernel installed.

Used KERNEL
My special kernel 4.10.1-gentoo-exton corresponding Kernel.org’s kernel 4.10.1. It’s the latest stable kernel as of now. (20170303).

What’s new in kernel 4.10?

Programs etc
The best thing with exGENT is the premier auto detection of hardware and the ability to easily install the system to hard drive during a live session. Installed programs: Among many others GParted, GNU Emacs, Firefox, Google Chrome, Vlc, Spotify, Thunderbird, Samba, AbiWord,
Nvidia Graphics driver 378.09 and NetworkManager. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source the Gentoo way. (After the installation to hard drive).

Quick install to Hard Drive
exGENT Linux can be installed to hard drive in 3 – 10 min. (Depending on computer type). This means that all of you who might hesitate to perform a normal Gentoo installation – which can take up to a couple of days – now have the chance to get this great Linux system (Gentoo) installed on your computers very easy.

SPOTIFY
You can easy and quick install Spotify in exGENT. Just run the command emerge spotify. The installation takes about 1 min.
NOTE: Spotify is pre-installed in Build 170303.

Google Chrome
To be able to run Netflix in exGENT you’ll need Google Chrome. Just install it with the command emerge –ask www-client/google-chrome
Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2
Screenshot 3 – Netflix is running
NOTE: Google Chrome is pre-installed in Build 170303.

Who is exGENT/Gentoo for?
Experienced Linux users or those who really want to learn Linux. (Perhaps also for people who are bored with mainstream distributions like Ubuntu).

CruxEX 3.3 (CRUX 3.3) live USB with LXDE and kernel 4.9.9-exton – Build 170216

CruxEX 3.3 64 bit Linux Live USB is based on CRUX 3.3 (latest version, released 170212), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86-64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users. The primary focus of this distribution is keep it simple, which is reflected in a straightforward tar.gz-based package system, BSD-style initscripts, and a relatively small collection of trimmed packages. The secondary focus is utilization of new Linux features and recent tools and libraries. CRUX also has a ports system which makes it easy to install and upgrade applications). CruxEX 3.3 2017 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel with “my” special kernel 4.9.9-exton, with support for “extra everything”.

Kernel etc
Kernel 4.9.9 is the latest available stable kernel as of 170216. Among all installed and updated applications are Firefox 51.0, GParted 0.27, File Roller 3.22 (Archive Manager), Gimp 2.8.18, Nvidia Graphics driver 375.26 and Wicd 1.7.2. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source.

Unique
CruxEX 3.3 2017 build 170216 is – as my previous CRUX-remasters – unique in the world. I.e. there is no other CRUX Live CD/USB (as far as I know). In any case, not for downloading.

NEWS 20170209 about exGENT
I’ve made yet a new version (20170209) of exGENT based on Gentoo Linux. Now with Xfce 4.12.1 and kernel 4.9.8. It is for the 64 bit architecture. I call it exGENT 2017 Xfce4 Live DVD. All installed packages in exGENT have been updated to the latest available version by 170209.

Build 170209 of exGENT replaces Build 170206
Today I discovered some errors in exGENT Build 170206. They were not important, but nevertheless annoying. Build 170209 is totally error-free (as far as I know). While I was at it I installed Google Chrome (for all Netflix addicts) and Spotify (for all music lovers).

CruxEX (CRUX 3.2) Build 151128

cruxlogoNEWS ABOUT CruxEX Build 151128
To my horror I discovered that I had forgot to install the Graphics drivers VESA, ATI and VMware in Build 151125. They are now included in Build 151128. I’ve also finally discovered a way to install GParted in CRUX. GParted version 0.24.0 (latest) is now included in Build 151128. GParted is quite useful, wouldn’t you agree?

CruxEX 3.2 64 bit Linux Live CD/USB is based on CRUX 3.2 (latest version, released 151123), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX 3.2 is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86-64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users). CruxEX 3.2 2016 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel with “my” special kernel 4.3.0-x86_64-cruxex, with support for “extra everything”.

Kernel etc
Kernel 4.3.0 is the latest available stable kernel as of 151125. Among all installed and updated applications are Firefox, Gimp and Wicd. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source.

Or burn the ISO file to a CD and run CruxEX live the “normal” way. Mainly the ISO file is for all of you who like to run and test Linux systems in VirtualBox (before installing the systems to hard drive).

Nvidia Graphics driver
I have also installed Nvidia Graphics driver 352.63 in this version of CruxEX. It has support for the following GPUs (among others): Quadro K1200, Quadro M6000, GeForce 920M, GeForce 930A, GeForce 930M, GeForce 940M, GeForce GTX 950M, GeForce GTX 960M and GeForce GTX TITAN X.

AndEX (Android-x86) 5.1.1 Lollipop with GAPPS and kernel 4.0.3 – Build 150611

andex-apps-20150610-smallNEWS 150611 – AndEX – Lollipop 5.1.1 with kernel 4.0.3 and GAPPS
My new build of Android-x86 Lollipop 5.1.1 has GAPPS pre-installed. I.e. Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Maps, YouTube and more apps. For example: Facebook, OfficeSuite 8 and Pool Break Lite (3D game). The ISO is called android-x86-5.1.1-lollipop-kernel-4.0.3-exton-GAPPS-556mb-150611.iso. AndEX 150611 is totally error-free. (This Lollipop version was released April 27, 2015). When running AndEX live you will get some error messages during the setup of your wireless connection and logging into your Google account, but nothing serious. For installing new apps you shall always use Google Play Store in AndEX build 150611. Only use Aptoide App Manager (which is also pre-installed) if you can’t find the app you are searching for in Google Play Store.

About AndEX

My compiled Androidx86 system (Lollipop 5.1.1) can run live (from CD or a USB stick) or be installed on almost all laptops (and some Desktop computers). For example Acer (Aspire), HP, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Thinkpad, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Asus laptops. The Android system is distributed in the form of an ISO file as the rest of my Linux distributions. I.e. you must (as usual) burn the ISO file to a CD if you want to run the system live on your computer or install it to hard drive. Read about how to burn ISO files. Or skip that. Just use ImgBurn. Nothing can go wrong.

More about AndEX
Lollipop 5.1.1 is the latest version of the Android mobile operating system developed by Google. I call my remaster of it AndEX Lollipop Live CD. It uses “my” special kernel 4.0.3-exton-android-x86 with some extra features. I.e. extra drivers. My Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 build from 2015-06-06 will also cost you 9 $. I has two advantages over the Lollipop version: You can run the system in VirtualBox and the system can be used also on older laptops. Read more about the KitKat 4.4.4 version 150606 or DOWNLOAD it instantly.

Installing 3D games
I wrote an article 150608 about installing 3D games in my KitKat 4.4.4 Build 6. The same games can be installed in AndEX Build 150611. I have also tested Cars: Fast as Lightning and Trials Frontier in AndEX. Those apps ran without problems.

What’s the point?

Well, if you like your Android phone and all the apps you have installed on it I’m sure you will also like to run apps from your laptop. Bigger screen and better sound etc. Also: In AndEX version 150611 almost all apps and games can be installed via Google Play Store. Still not convinced? Then read my article about “How useful an Androx-x86 system can be for the average computer user“.

NOTE/WARNING
You must use a fairly new/modern computer. Android-x86 Lollipop won’t run (even start) on older computers. My other Android remaster KitKat 4.4.4 build 150606 will run also on older computers.
