NEWS 20170412 about exGENT (Gentoo) 64 bit
I’ve made a light version of exGENT with only a few necessary packages pre-installed. It uses LXQt 0.11.0 as Desktop environment and kernel 4.10.4-aufs-gentoo-exton-s. The ISO file is of only 1090 MB compared to exGENT version 170407, which is of 2620 MB. Study all packages installed in Build 170412.

I have compiled Chromium OS from source for the second time. My first compiled version of Chromium OS is from 160525. Chromium OS is an open-source project that aims to build an operating system that provides a fast, simple, and more secure computing experience for people who spend most of their time on the web. My Chromium OS Build 170212 is for all 64 bit “normal” Desktop computers and laptops.
How do I run Chromium OS?
Normally you run Chromium OS from a USB stick, but the system can also be installed to hard drive. Could be useful if you want to bring new life to an old computer. Be aware of the fact that Chromium OS can’t be installed together with other Linux systems (or any other OS). It will “take” the whole disk.
The difference between Chromium OS and Google Chrome OS
Chromium OS is the open source project, used primarily by developers, with code that is available for anyone to checkout, modify, and build. Google Chrome OS is the Google product that OEMs ship on Chromebooks for general consumer use.
MANY APPS are pre-installed when ChromX is up and running
Showing installed apps – screenshot. As you can see it shows a lot of Android apps installed by me on my Android mobile phone using the same Gmail address as the one I’ve used to log in to Chromium in Chromium OS (ChromX). Even Google Play Store is there. All apps (for example Google Maps) work, but you can’t install new apps using Google Play Store. You can use the Chrome Web Store though.

I have made a new version of ExTiX – The Ultimate Linux System. I call it ExTiX 16.5 LXQt for the Intel Compute Stick. Build 161203 is only for Intel Compute Sticks. I.e. you can’t run the system on other computers. Build 161203 uses “my” kernel 4.8.0-26-exton-IntelAtom with special patches, which I have Linuxium to thank for.
Build 161119 – my first for the Intel Compute Stick – has been replaced by Build 161203. Some errors in the first build have been corrected. Occasionally crashes of Ubiquity when running the previous version of ExTiX (from 161119) was the main reason for the new release. I.e. in Build 161203 Ubiquity (and everything else) will work as expected.

ABOUT ExTiX for Intel Compute Sticks
ExTiX 16.5 LXQt 64 bit for the Intel Compute Stick is based on Debian 9 Stretch and Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Unity (Ubuntu). After removing Unity I have installed LXQt 0.10.0. LXQt is the Qt port and the upcoming version of LXDE, the Lightweight Desktop Environment. It is the product of the merge between the LXDE-Qt and the Razor-qt projects: A lightweight, modular, blazing-fast and user-friendly desktop environment.
The system language is ENGLISH.
NEWS ABOUT ExTiX 16.5 build 161203 with LXQt Desktop environment
1. ExTiX LXQt is based on Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak. LXQt 0.10.0 is used as Desktop environment. All packages have been updated to the latest version by 161203. Kernel 4.8.0-26-exton-IntelAtom is used. You can download it if you want to use it in another Ubuntu system which can run on the Intel Compute Stick.
2. Google Chrome is used as Web Browser, which makes it possible to watch Netflix movies. It is not possible in Firefox (in Linux).
3. I have also installed BlueGriffon Web Editor. BlueGriffon is a new WYSIWYG content editor for the World Wide Web. Powered by Gecko, the rendering engine of Firefox, it’s a modern and robust solution to edit Web pages in conformance to the latest Web Standards. Only to be compared with Dreamweaver. (In my opinion).
4. Other included important/useful packages are: LibreOffice, Thunderbird, GParted, SMPlayer, GCC and other compilation tools so that you can install packages from source. Furthermore “all” multimedia codecs. Everything the average Linux user could wish for I would say.

About DebEX Barebone, DebEX Gnome and DebEX KDE Linux 64 bit
All three systems/distributions are a based on Debian. DebEX KDE is based on Debian Jessie (Debian 8.6). DebEX Barebone and DebEX Gnome are based on Debian testing (Stretch) and Debian unstable (Sid). Xfce 4.12 (released 150228 after about three years work!) is used as Desktop environment in DebEX Barebone. Gnome 3.22 and Mate 1.16 are used in DebEX Gnome. KDE 4.14.2 and KDE Plasma Desktop 5:84 are used in DebEX KDE. DebEX Gnome uses my special kernel 4.8.0-21-exton. (Kernel 4.8). DebEX KDE uses my special kernel 4.8.0-18-exton. (Kernel 4.8-rc8). DebEX Barebone uses my special kernel 4.3.0-5-exton. (Kernel 4.3.3). The system language is English (in all three versions of DebEX).
NEWS 161007 about DebEX Gnome
I have made a new extra version of DebEX, which I call DebEX Gnome Live DVD. It’s a pure Debian system using the testing (stretch) and unstable (sid) repositories. Two Desktop Environments are pre-installed. Gnome 3.22 (latest) and Mate 1.16 (latest). I have also installed Nvidia’s proprietary graphics driver 370.28 in this new version of DebEX. To be able to enjoy Gnome 3.22 while running DebEX live (from DVD or a USB stick) you’ll need to have a new Nvidia graphics card installed. You can see which cards are supported here. Otherwise you’ll have to settle for Mate 1.16. (Not a bad choice btw). Furthermore I have installed Google Chrome to make it possible to watch Netflix movies. All other installed packages have also been updated to the latest version as of 161007. DebEX Gnome uses kernel 4.8.0-21-exton corresponding Kernel.org’s latest stable kernel 4.8.

Latest News about EXTON Linux MultiBootCD 6-OS
A new version of EXTON Linux MultibootCD 6-OS is ready. Changes: New (latest) versions of Porteus, GParted, Puppy Linux (PuppEX Slack64), 4MLinux, SliTaz and Tiny Core. Note about VirtualBox: All systems but Porteus can run in VirtualBox. Why Porteus won’t run I don’t know.
What’s the point of running EXTON Linux MultiBootCD 6-OS?
Anyone who is slightly interested in Linux and want to see how far the development of the most famous mini Linux systems have reached should try it. Easy then to test the current systems on the CD (DVD) live to find out which one suits you (and your computer) best.

NEWS 160817 about SlackEX
I’ve upgraded all included Slackware 14.2 packages to the latest version by 160817. The kernel has been changed to version 4.7.1 released 160816.
VirtualBox (not in Slackware’s repositories) has been upgraded to version 5.1.4 and Nvidia’s proprietary Graphics driver to version 367.35.
I have made yet another version of SlackEX. It has the latest kernel (4.6.4, released 160711) and the latest KDE (4.14.21) Desktop Environment.
New features in version 160714 of SlackEX
I have replaced kernel 4.5.1-x86_64-exton with kernel 4.6.4-x86_64-exton with support for “everything”. Most important is that I have changed repositories from Slackware 14.1 to Current. I.e. Slackware 14.2 (released 160701). KDE is upgraded to version 4.14.21 (latest KDE version). All other component software is also upgraded to the latest Slackware Current version by now. I may also mention in particular GParted 0.24.0 (latest, not in Slackware’s repositories), VirtualBox 5.1.0 (latest, not in Slackware’s repositories), Google Chrome 46.0.2490.86 (not in Slackware’s repositories), Gimp 2.8.10 (installed from source), GSlapt 0.5.3h, Firefox 47.0.1, Thunderbird 45.2.0, Samba 4.4.5 and GCC 5.3.0. Furthermore I have installed Grub2, which can be used as boot loader (if you want) after a hard drive install. Study the full package LIST. Note: I have replaced Wicd with NetworkManager. It works better. Most important: This version of SlackEX has to be installed to a USB Pen Drive!

MeX 64 bit Linux based on Linux Ubuntu 15.10 with Cinnamon 2.6.13
Mex Linux is no longer based on Linux Mint. MeX build 151217 is based only on Debian 8.2 and Ubuntu 15.10. I have replaced the original kernel with “my” special kernel 4.3.0-4-exton. All packages in MeX Linux have been upgraded to the latest version by 151217.

1. The MeX ISO is now a ISO-hybrid, which means that it can very easily be transferred (copied) to a USB pen drive.
2. Another big improvement is that MeX now can run from RAM. Use Boot alternative 2 (Copy to RAM). When the system has booted up you can eject the disc (DVD)/USB stick. You’ll need at least 2 GB RAM to run MeX that way. The ISO file is of only 748 MB so MeX will run superfast from RAM!
Why not Linux Mint?
Latest Linux Mint (17.3 Rosa) is based on Ubuntu 14.04. I simply think the system it’s too old, even though I’m aware of that some people think that Ubuntu 14.04 is “better” than Ubuntu 15.10.
Why not Cinnamon 2.8?
Cinnamon, developed by the Linux Mint team, can be installed in version 2.8 also in Ubuntu 15.10. I decided not to do it since version 2.8 not yet is included in Ubuntu’s repositories. I guess there is a reason for it. Also the ISO file would have increased considerably in size if I had done it. Anyway you can do it yourself if you follow this instruction. The process is quite simple.
Used KERNEL (4.3.2)
The best thing with kernel 4.3 is that it has better support for the open-source Nvidia driver Nouveau than any other older kernel.

Yesterday I discovered that “my” Android-x86 systems can be installed to a USB stick with persistence. I.e. all system changes are saved directly on the stick. This is how it is done.
1. Format a “good” USB stick with the ext3 (not ext4) filesystem. This has to be done in a installed Linux system or while running a live Linux system from CD or a USB stick.
2. Insert your formatted USB stick and start up one of “my” Android-x86 systems (KitKat or Lollipop) from CD. In the slideshow below I’m installing AndEX (Lollipop 5.0.2) to my USB stick SanDisk Contour.

What is it good for?
Well, you don’t have to touch your hard drive. Installing Android-x86 this way won’t effect your “ordinary” boot loader. And as I say above: All system changes are persistent!
