Run your Ubuntu/Debian 64 bit system with the latest kernel – 4.8.0-rc8!

linux-300x215I have compiled yet another Ubuntu/Debian kernel for 64 bit systems. This time kernel 4.8.0-18-exton, equivalent to Kernel.org’s latest kernel 4.8.0-rc8 released 160926.

What’s new in Linux kernel 4.8?

Install kernel 4.8.0-18-exton in Ubuntu/Debian based distributions
My self-compiled Ubuntu kernels can be used in all types of modern Ubuntu systems, including Mint. They can even be used in Debian Jessie (Debian 8.6) and Debian Stretch (upcoming Debian 9).

Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 build 7 with GAPPS, kernel 4.0.8-exton-android-x86, Bluetooth (working!) and Mesa 10.5.9

desktop-kitkat-v7-smallAndroid-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 Exton build 150721, version 7, is a total rebuild.
I’ve added Mesa (3D Graphics Library) 10.5.9 for better Graphic performance. It has enabled hardware acceleration for Nvidia (Nouveau) and VMware (vmwgfx). The system can run live (from CD or a USB stick) on almost all laptops (and some Desktop computers). For example Acer (Aspire), HP, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Thinkpad, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Ausus laptops. The Android system is distributed in the form of an ISO file as the rest of my Linux distributions. I.e. you must (as usual) burn the ISO file to a CD if you want to run the system live on your computer or install it to hard drive. Read about how to burn ISO files. Or skip that. Just use ImgBurn. Nothing can go wrong. You can easily install the system to your hard drive and install new apps. You can also install new apps while running the system live. Google Play Store is pre-installed so you can just make your choices…

Used kernel
4.0.8-exton-android-x86.

Replacement
This version (version 7) replaces all my previous (6) Android-x86 4.4.4 KitKat builds. In version 7 (as in version 6) I’ve added GAPPS. I.e. Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Maps, YouTube and more apps (for example Bluetooth File Transfer). Everything just works.

Run your Ubuntu/Debian 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel – 3.19.0!

TuxI have compiled yet another Ubuntu/Debian kernel for 64 bit systems. This time kernel 3.19.0-5-exton, equivalent to Kernel.org’s stable kernel 3.19.0, released 150209.

Feature OVERVIEW for the Linux 3.19 kernel

Install kernel 3.19.0-5-exton in Ubuntu/Debian based distributions
My self-compiled Ubuntu kernels can be used in all types of modern Ubuntu systems, including Mint. They can even be used in Debian Jessie (upcoming Debian 8). If you want to use my kernel 3.19.0-5-exton for 64 bit systems, you can DOWNLOAD it from here.

md5sum for ubuntu-kernel-64bit-3.19.0-5-exton.zip, which is of 62,0 MB.

Installation instructions
Open the zip-file with WinZip, WinRAR or 7-Zip. Or run this command: unzip ubuntu-kernel-64bit-3.19.0-5-exton.zip. Go into the folder ubuntu-kernel-64bit-3.19.0-5-exton and run this command:
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.19.0-5_3.19.0-5.5_all.deb \
linux-headers-3.19.0-5-exton_3.19.0-5.5_amd64.deb \
linux-image-3.19.0-5-exton_3.19.0-5.5_amd64.deb

Then: Run command sudo update-grub (if you use Grub2).

Nvidia
It is possible to install Nvidia’s proprietary drivers if you use “my” kernel 3.19.0-5-exton. Could be useful if you like to play games. Please read this instruction. The Nvidia drivers in for example Ubuntu’s repositories – “Current” etc. – can’t be used. It is supposed to be “impossible” to install Nvidia’s latest drivers when running kernel 3.17 – 3.19 without “patches” etc. On the other hand it’s a fact that kernel 3.19 has better support for the open-source Nvidia driver Nouveau than any other older kernel.

A small clarification
“My” kernel 3.19.0-5-exton is compiled exactly the same way as all official Ubuntu kernels. That is, The Ubuntu Way. If not, the kernel would not function in a Ubuntu/Debian system.

Good luck!

Run your Ubuntu/Debian 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel – 3.18.3

TuxI have compiled yet another Ubuntu/Debian kernel for 64 bit systems. This time kernel 3.18.0-10-exton, equivalent to Kernel.org’s stable kernel 3.18.3, released 150116.

Feature OVERVIEW for the Linux 3.18 kernel

Install kernel 3.18.0-10-exton in Ubuntu/Debian based distributions
My self-compiled Ubuntu kernels can be used in all types of modern Ubuntu systems, including Mint. They can even be used in Debian Jessie (upcoming Debian 8?). If you want to use my kernel 3.18.0-10-exton for 64 bit systems, you can DOWNLOAD it from here.

md5sum for ubuntu-kernel-64bit-3.18.0-10-exton.zip, which is of 61,4 MB.

Installation instructions
Open the zip-file with WinZip, WinRAR or 7-Zip. Or run this command: unzip ubuntu-kernel-64bit-3.18.0-10-exton.zip. Go into the folder ubuntu-kernel-64bit-3.18.0-10-exton and run this command:

linux-image-3.18.0-10-exton_3.18.0-10.11_amd64.deb

Then: Run command sudo update-grub (if you use Grub2).

Nvidia

The Nvidia drivers in for example Ubuntu’s repositories – “Current” etc. – can’t be used. It is supposed to be “impossible” to install Nvidia’s latest drivers when running kernel 3.16 – 3.18 without “patches” etc.

A small clarification
“My” kernel 3.18.0-10-exton is compiled exactly the same way as all official Ubuntu kernels. That is, The Ubuntu Way. If not, the kernel would not function in a Ubuntu/Debian system.

DebEX KDE live with KDE 4.14.2 and kernel 3.18.0-7-exton (3.18)

DebianNEWS 141216
I have made a new version of DebEX KDE Live DVD. It replaces version 140821. It’s a pure Debian 8 system. I.e.: There are no Ubuntu or Kubuntu elements involved. DebEX KDE uses KDE 4.14.2 as Desktop environment. (The second latest stable version of KDE) and kernel 3.18.0-7-exton. I have installed Nvidia’s proprietary graphic driver 340.65. All other installed packages have also been updated to the latest version of 141216. Study the full package list.

About Nvidia’s proprietary graphic driver 340.65 in DebEX KDE version 141216
If you can and want to use said driver you’ll have to leave X/KDE by pressing Ctrl Alt F1. Log in as root with password root. Then run the command nvidia-xconfig (to create /etc/X11/xorg.conf). Then run startx to enter X/KDE again. You will notice a big difference if you have the right (modern/new) Nvidia card.
