NEWS 260125 about PuppEX Forky64 – Build 260125 – with LXQt 2.3

My new DebianDog/Puppy Linux derivative is built using the Forky Build Script. It is compatible with Debian Forky – upcoming Debian 14. It is for UEFI computers and non-UEFI computers. Build 260125 uses LXQt 2.3 as Desktop Environment (DE). “Compatible with Debian 14” means that you can use the apt commands (apt update, apt upgrade, apt install MyUsefulPackage etc.) and Synaptic for installing thousands of new Debian packages in PuppEX Forky64. PuppEX Forky64 can easily be installed manually (frugal install) to hard drive if you have at least one Linux system installed. You must also use Grub as boot loader. SPECIAL NOTE
PuppEX Forky64 is not a “normal” Puppy Linux remaster, since it is based on DebianDog, which is a very small Debian live distribution shaped to look and act like Puppy Linux. Debian structure and behavior are untouched. See: https://github.com/DebianDog

RaspArch Build 260111 for the “new” Raspberry Pi 5 (released on October 23, 2023)

RaspArch Build 260111 is a “ready-to-go” ARM (aarch64/arm64) system. It can only run on a Raspberry Pi 5 computer. All included packages have been updated to the latest version as of 260111. The Desktop Environment is LXQt 2.3. You can log in to LXQt from SLiM as the normal user archpi or as root.

RASPBERRY Pi 5
This RaspArch version is made especially for the new Raspberry Pi 5 released on October 23, 2023 (4GB and 8GB).
NOTE1: A Raspberry Pi 5 is about twice as fast as the Raspberry Pi 4.
NOTE2: You can only run version 260111 on a Rpi5.

WHO should run Arch Linux/RaspArch?
My answer: The system fits the “advanced” Linux user/enthusiast, who would be willing to run an occasional command from time to time.

PERFORMANCE
Everything works! The System is responsive and quite fast. The sound and video performance is very good. Especially when logged in as the ordinary user archpi.

TOTALLY UNIQUE
There is no other (good) Arch Linux ARM System for Raspberry Pi 5 (as far as I know). Not for downloading anyway.

ArchEX (Arch Linux) BUILD 260108 with LXQt 2.3, Calamares Installer 3.4.0 and kernel 6.18.2-arch2-1

I’ve made a new extra version of ArchEX with the LXQt 2.3 Desktop Environment. LXQt 2.3 was released 251105 LXQt is a lightweight Qt desktop environment. It will not get in your way. It will not hang or slow down your system. It is focused on being a classic desktop with a modern look and feel. I’ve also managed to install Calamares Installer from source in ArchEX LXQt. It means that you can install ArchEX LXQt in any language. Everything will then be in your chosen language when the installation has completed.

RUNS from RAM
ArchEX LXQt runs LIVE from RAM. Super fast. When the System has booted up you can remove the USB stick or the DVD.

WAYLAND
Some people think that using Wayland in a Linux System is very important. Wayland is said to be “the modern, simpler, more secure replacement for the aging X11 display server, offering better performance”. You can install Wayland ArchEX LXQt to use it instead of the X11 display server. I “forgot” to do so. Just run the command sudo pacman -S lxqt-wayland-session labwc. You can do it also while running ArchEX live. Watch this screenshot.
